Richings Park Neighborhood Watch Coordination & Schemes

  • Area Coordination:

Jane Brown oversees all the Ivers, while Will and Clarie Goddard are area coordinators for Richings Park.

  • Current Status:

Will Goddard has been less active recently due to his focus on Repair Cafe  However, Neighborhood Watch (NHW) remains a priority.

  • Key Objectives:

    • Delegation & Support: Identify deputies or encourage road stewards to take on coordinator roles; work closely with coordinators from the other schemes.

    • Guidelines & Policing Strategy: Develop simple, step-by-step guidelines for coordinators and introduce “Problem-oriented policing” to identify and address specific local issues.

    • Community Engagement:

      • Boost activity on the Iver, Iver Heath, and Richings Park Crime Watch Facebook pages.

      • Encourage non-Facebook users to subscribe to Jane Brown's weekly email newsletter (a PDF summary of Facebook posts).

      • Create a leaflet that also includes information on SmartVille, Speed Watch, etc.

      • Complete installation of area signs and plan an event/campaign with Paul, Tony, and Jane to promote NHW initiatives.

      • Coordinate with Tony Hill who coordinates Smartville in RP and RPRA on training for searching SmartVille recordings. A small group from the RPRA committee has volunteered to help analyse camera images and is waiting for a date for training.

Communications & Membership Strategy

  • Current Tools:

    • Although there is an online membership tool for NHW,  the Facebook group and newsletter effectively keep the community informed.

    • The RP WhatsApp group also serves an important role in community communication outside of NHW

  • Proposed Changes:

    • Explore the possibility of “auto-enrolling” RPRA members into NHW to avoid duplicate record-keeping and streamline GDPR compliance.

    • This integration might boost membership numbers and allow access to NHW community funds for local projects like litter-picking equipment.

    • Recognize potential issues if someone wants to join one group but not the other; however, these seem manageable given RPRA's role in funding NHW activities.

What is Smartville?

Smartville is the project name for Richings Park Village’s CCTV project – It consists of strategically positioned still, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and surveillance CCTV cameras.

We continue to fundraise to continue the use of the cameras and replace them when necessary, grants are also sought from local organisations.

More information can be found on the dedicated website: Smartville – A network of private ANPR & CCTV cameras
